How to Resolve Issues When You Can't Delete a CMS Collection in Webflow

When you try to delete a CMS collection in Webflow, you might find that the delete button doesn't work or an error message appears. This usually happens because the collection is linked to other pages or elements, preventing direct deletion. This article will explain specific methods for deleting a collection in such situations.

Reasons why you can't delete a collection and how to fix them

There are two main reasons why you might not be able to delete a collection:

• The collection is connected to a page.
• Data remains in the collection.

The collection is connected to a page

If the collection is connected to a page, follow these steps:

1. Click "View connection"

Clicking "View connection" will show you which pages the collection is linked to, as shown in the image. In this example, we found it's connected to the "Frequently Asked Questions about Recruitment" page. You cannot delete the collection until you remove these page connections.

2. Delete the connected page

In "Pages," find the relevant page ("Frequently Asked Questions about Recruitment") and delete the page itself.

3. Click "Delete connection"

Clicking "Delete connection" again will allow you to delete the collection.

Data remains in the collection

If data remains in the collection, follow these steps:

1. Click "View connection"

If you click "View connection" and it shows "No connection" as in the image, it's possible that data still remains in the collection, preventing its deletion.

2. Delete data within the collection

Check all remaining data in the collection and click the "Delete" button in the upper right corner of the screen.

After clicking the "Delete" button, the data will be removed, and the item count will become zero.

3. Click "Delete connection"

Click "Delete connection" at the bottom of the screen to delete the collection.
